With lower gaming sales than expected on its electronic keno game on P.E.I., Atlantic Lottery Corporation is planning to launch a marketing campaign. Atlantic Lotto spokesperson Jennifer Dalton said on July 20th, 2009 that with any new product like keno it takes time for gamers to get familiar with the game.
Keno, a game which bears similarities to bingo and the traditional lottery but with quicker draws, was introduced to P.E.I. in March in twenty-eight locations. Atlantic Lottery spokesperson Jennifer Dalton said that the game produced $858,000 in revenue since its debut, which is smaller than expected, but she would not say how much smaller since it is still in its early stages.
Dalton believes that they will achieve better results in the long run. Keno is a slower game compared with standard VLT's. The digits switch every 5 minutes and gamers can wager between $1 and $25 at a time. But at one bar on P.E.I, keno was not making much of a noise. The bartender said that there will be a lot of days whe he is there for 8 hours and no one would play keno. He added that he sells 2 keno tickets per day on average.
A video lottery terminal player said that keno does not have enough attraction. She said that video lottery terminals are more flashy and you can even pick different games. Keno just features the same set-up. Atlantic Lottery will be improving the noise on keno in the following months. It plans on putting up posters and other advertisement material to promote the game.
