On January 20th, 20090, landlord Lisa Hushaw is hoping that someone will now be interested to rent her house in Benson now that a neighboring rental will be transformed to a keno facility. Hushaw said that the people, noise and sometimes the violence from the different events being held at the Clairborne Center had pushed away Hushaw's previous tenant, who is a single mother.
The Omaha City Council has given their approval to Clairborne Center proprietor Jeff Rothlisberger's request to change the rental hall located at #65th street Ames Avenue into a keno facility that serves alcoholic beverages and food. The decision of the Omaha City Council was unanimous. Rothlisberger had still wanted to host events like weddings and birthday parties. But the members of the council decided that all forms of events should not be permitted anymore.
Previously, events like concerts and parties only led to different problems. Councilman Frank Brown stated that he is not in favor of any parties being held at the Clairborne hall. Neighborhood activist Sharon Chvala stated that the customers of the Clairborne hall throw garbage on the street. Chvala added that he is more in favor of the Clairborne hall exclusively hosting keno.
Neighbors have long voiced their complaint about the Clairborne hall, including when it is still Cartier's nightclub, under a different ownership. The Omaha Council awarded the Clairborne Center a license to offer liquor back in 2006.
