GTECH To Appeal Ohio Lottery Board Decision On Keno and Lottery Contract

On June 3rd, 2008, GTECH Corporation from Rhode Island, United States us set to make their case before Ohio Lottery officials in order to express their discontent regarding the Ohio Lottery's decision to hand the reins to Intralot, which will operate the lottery and keno by June 2009. The company is a Greek gaming organization but it has a headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia.

GTECH Corporation will handle the Ohio Lottery's brand new video keno game that will be offered in bars, restaurants and other business establishments in Ohio beginning on July 2008 so Intralot will take over from GTECH next year. Just recently, a state panel decided to stop finalizing the contract from Intralot because of the GTECH appeal, but it is widely expected to approve in two weeks.

The members of the Ohio state Controlling Boar commented that they plan to wait the result of the GTECH appeal before deciding on anything. Governor Ted Strickland commented that the keno game that the Ohio Lottery will be offering is expected to contribute a total of $73 million to the state budget.

But Governor Strickland is still not in favor of other forms of gaming like video lottery aside from keno because he thinks that it will help the solve the budget deficit of the state.
