Maryland Lottery officials said on May 18th, 2010 that Mr. James Perrone, who is in Ocean City for a work conference, bought his winning keno ticket at a hotel.
53 year-old Perrone said that he originally wanted to spend two dollars on a ticket but accidentally marked his keno ticket for ten dollars per game for two games-resulting in a twenty dollars price tag.
When Perrone tried to cancel the keno ticket, the draw for the winning keno number had already started and it was too late. The Columbia residence watched the keno games with other players at the hotel bar and realized that nine out of the ten digits that he had picked were drawn very quickly.
Perrone said that the whole bar was rooting for the number twenty-nine to come out. He added that he could not believe what he was seeing. After the number twenty-nine appeared, Perrone asked a bartender how much money he won and learned that it was forty thousand dollars.
