The Indian tribe that owns the Mohegan Sun casino will participate in a forum on the game of keno, a proposed Connecticut Lottery game that could affect Indian gaming revenue.
The Mohegan tribe will have representatives at an informational forum on March 2nd, 2010 in Hartford, tribal Head Lynn Malerba said on February 24th, 2010. Malerba made the remarks after a Mohegan tribe-sponsored luncheon at the state Capitol in which she explained the long-standing cooperation between the tribe and the Connecticut government.
Malerba said that she thinks that it will be good to have a serious discussion on the issue. The general counsel for the Mashantucket Pequot tribe that operates the Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, Jackson King, has also been invited to the Public Safety and Security Committee to discuss the issue.
The committee, which will start the forum at 11:00 a.m. in the Legislative Office Building near the Capitol, is co-chaired by Senator Andrea Stillman (D-Waterford). Stillman said that she is not in favor of expanded gaming and is also concerned that the Connecticut Lottery keno could violate the gaming agreements between Connecticut's two gaming tribes and the state.
Stillman said that she is concern about the issue since Governor M. Jodi Rell has not introduced a bill, saying that the game can be enacted with just regulatory measures.
