Norfolk Nebraska Decides on the Issue of Keno Gaming

On June 4, 2007, a popular gambling game could be offered to the residents of Norfolk Nebraska but it would be up to the local voters to make the decision of whether or not to allow it.

Norfolk is the only first class city in Nebraska that does not allow keno games and that day, the city council finance committee began the process of getting public opinion on allowing the game to be played in the city.

City officials said that keno has the potential to bring $400,000 yearly to the community. When it comes to the possible beneficiaries of the proceeds, city officials were in favor of using the money for city parks and recreational facilities.

The committee also approved the proposal to send out requests to various companies that offer keno in Nebraska and are interested in operating keno games in Norfolk. However, it will be entirely up to the voters if all of these plans for the game will push through.

The Norfolk Finance Committee said that before deciding whether they should hold a special referendum to decide on the issue or place it on the voters' ballots, they should first ask for the view of the gaming provider that they will choose.
