Some schools in the province of Nova Scotia will receive the one hundred eighty LCD television sets that were part of the provincial government's lost bet on the game of electronic keno.
Nova Scotia Finance Minister Graham Steele, who is responsible for part of the Gambling Control Act, said on October 22nd, 2009 that the Education Department and school board officials will work out which schools in the province will receive the LCD televisions.
The Education Department said that there are about four hundred thirty schools in Nova Scotia. Finance Minister Graham Steele said that the 180 Toshiba forty-two inch televisions cost Nova Scotia $900 each. That is a total of $162,000. Thursday was the last day for electronic keno.
Bars and restaurants ceased selling the keno tickets on October 21st, 2009 but they may have sold advance electronic keno tickets for Thursday. Finance Minister Steele announced last month that Nova Scotia was stopping electronic keno.
The previous Tory government introduced electronic keno in March 2009. Finance Minister Steele said in September 2009 that Nova Scotia would take a $3.4 million loss on the electronic keno venture.
