The Ohio Lottery is attracting solid and vital business, despite the ongoing financial crisis. On April 1st, 2009, a spokesperson for the Ohio Lottery states that the overall sales of the lottery are up by 3.5%.
This is mainly due to the game of keno which was introduced to the state of Ohio in August 2008. Governor Ted Strickland proposed the implementation of Keno to help with the budget deficit. So far this year, the game of Keno has earned a total of $71 million for the state treasury.
But the Ohio Lottery's other game sales number are not as optimistic as several lottery games have seen drastic decrease in their overall sales. Picked Three sales has slide slightly by 1%. The total sales for the Rolling Cash and Kicker games have also dropped around 5% each. Mega Millions took the largest hit, suffering an eleven percent decline.
But it is not all bad news. Some Ohio Lottery games have seen a substantial increase in sales like the Pick Four game which enjoyed a five percent increase and Classic Lotto sales are up by six and a half percent. The Ohio Lottery also supports local schools all over the state.
