Saint Nicholas came early to a St. Mary's single parent who won more than $2.2 million playing the game of keno on December 24th, 2009.
The woman, who wished to remain unknown, entered St. Mary's Rugby League Club as any other typical 58 year-old player. She left as a multimillionaire when she won the keno jackpot of $2,227,209.70.
St. Mary's Club keno coordinator Tracey Choice said that the woman was in shock after her big win. She said that the player was speechless and needed help of the staff to recover from her shock.
The player celebrated her win with a glass of water with a mix of lemon. The woman was at the St. Mary's Club with her friend. She picked the winning numbers using a mix of her children's birthdays and her lucky numbers.
According to the St. Mary's club, she will use her keno winnings to settle all her debts, set herself up a retirement fund and visit her mother in Croatia. Choice said that it was lucky win for the player, who decided to play a few more keno games at the last moment.
Choice said that the woman was only going to replay her keno ticket for five games but she changed her mind at the last minute and chose to replay it for ten games. It was on the sixth game that she hit the jackpot.
Club marketing manager Cathy Rowley said that it was the best Christmas present that anyone could receive. Rowley said that they love it when their members win big but this win is really special because it is Christmas.
