On September 3rd, 2008, Tattersall's has been edging out gambling rival Intralot to run mid-week lottery in the state of Victoria. The gambling giant will bring back the lotto fixture, which is drawn every Mondays and Wednesdays, by the end of the year. The Midweek Lottery ended on July 1st, 2008 when the new lottery licenses came into effect, ending Tattersall's fifty-four year monopoly.
Under the brand new agreements, Intralot has the right to manage instant lotteries or "scratchies" and keno while Tattersall's retains the rights to Powerball, Oz Lotto and Saturday Lotto. Tattersall's can now add mid-week lottery to their gaming offering under a license amendment announced by Victorian Gaming Minister Tony Robinson.
Gaming Minister Robinson commented that both gambling operators had approved since the lottery changes, announced in October 2007. He said that in determining this matter, he considered the public interest was served by giving approval to Tattersall's application and that it was consistent with the tenure of the first license. Robinson said that Tattersall's has shown sufficient technical capacity to conduct this lottery.
