On April 10, 2007, the commissioners of Scotts Bluff County are thinking of modifying the keno operation of the county. The commissioners are considering the proposal that a third party should be hired to operate the games. The keno games in Scotts Bluff County reel in about $300,000 annually.
Aside from Scotts Bluff, other counties and cities that offer keno games said that the profits from keno games that are run by private contractors are similar to the keno games that are run by the government.
Mark Masterton, the Board Chairman, commented that the privately owned companies can provide better quality service compared to the government, which is not useful compared to those that actually operate the business.
Masterton added that if the keno operation is in the county, more resources might be set aside in advertising the game and making the facilities more comfortable for the customers.
The County Staff and the Attorney's Office will review any lingering legal issues for the county board, which will discuss the keno issue at their next meeting in about 2 weeks.
